THURSDAY THREADS – SANYUKTA SHRESTHA
Bridal designer Sanyukta Shrestha has created a Spring 2013 collection inspired by the ever provocative Wallis Simpson, whose love affair with King Edward VIII led him to abdicate the throne. When delving into the history of Wallis Simpson, the fashion icon, I stumbled upon some interesting quotes. Designer Roland Mouret says “Love or hate her, the world is still obsessed by that woman.” Biographer Anna Sebba “Wallis Simpson always used fashion as a weapon.” And Arianne Phillips Costume Designer on Madonna’s movie W.E. explains “She was also a hungry whore for jewelry. Edward gave Wallis jewelry to make her feel royal.” The Wallis in Love Collection by Sanyukta Shrestha draws on the elegant and timeless styles Wallis made popular as well as her provocative nature.
The title Wedding dress in the collection ‘Wallis’ finds a balance between daring and demure with lace long sleeves and a split bust line.
Designer Sanyukta Shrestha is a keen ecological advocate in the Wedding industry using organic, ethically sourced fabrics. Here organic cotton lace is used to create a dreamy cathedral length train.
Channelling a Wallis’ signature style with the Cynthia Wedding dress that features a lovely brooch detail and ruched cup sleeves.
You know I adore a short Wedding dress and this Bessie design is dramatic yet demure elements. Love it.
The pleating detailing all over the Anne dress accentuates the feminine figure and I particularly like the added vintage touch with the art deco inspired brooch at the waist.
My final favourite from the Wallis in Love Collection is this sheath like halter neck Wedding gown with dropped low back and soft flowing skirt flared from the hip. I wanted to leave you with a real ‘wow’ Sanyukta Shrestha number.
