New York Fashion Week has been giving us the first taste of our fashion future showcasing the designer Spring 2012 collections. I have been scavenging the shows for this week’s post that offers Bijou brides my prediction of the key trends that will be influencing bridal fashion 2012/2013. I have focused on four key trends – Dipped Hems, Flashes of Colour, Mermaid Shapes and Sporty Styles, remember you heard it here first!
TREND WATCH – DIPPED HEM
At last those wedding shoes you spent a fortune buying can be a real focal point of your bridal style. New York was awash with glamour puss perfect dipped hem gowns, Michelle Obama’s favourite Jason Wu (left) didn’t disappoint and neither did the King of Luxe Oscar De La Renta (right). Do approach with caution if you have more of cankle than shapely ankle.
Monique Lhuillier (left) gave the look an asymmetric twist and Marchesa (right) took it above the knee.
TREND WATCH – FLASH OF COLOUR
Pops of neon brights woke up the fashion pack and for brides flashes of colour are a great move from the muted tones that have ruled the 2011/2012 bridal collections. Jenny Packham demonstrated that colour could be added on top of or in the lining of your dress.
TREND WATCH – MERMAID
The dominant style for the evening gowns gracing the New York runway, expect to find Mermaid styles returning to the bridal fashion runways next year.
Zac Posen (left), one of my favourite red carpet designers brought high octane drama with a stunning collection of Mermaid gowns. I predict Mr Posen’s gowns will be stealing some serious limelight at the Academy Awards next year (you heard it here first). Whislt Oscar De La Renta (right) offered a more restrained take on the Mermaid style.
Designers also chose to modernise the classic Mermaid shape with an injection of ruffles, Badgley Mischka (left) brought an 80’s vibe and Marchesa (right) an ethereal twist.
TREND WATCH – SPORTY
If you are a Bijou bride with a passion for sports and the necessary athletic physique you will love the body fitting, breathable and supportive attire from the New York runways. A trend set to make your walk down the aisle more aerodynamic.
Victoria Beckham mixed two Spice Girl personas to create Posh Sporty gowns.
Vera Wang ensured maximum skin breathability with her lightweight fabrics.
