THURSDAY THREADS – NEW YORK BRIDAL WEEK TRENDS

New York bridal week trends coming up, I know it’s the one you’ve been waiting for.  Bridal fashion doesn’t get much bigger than the Big Apple shows – Jenny Packham, Marchesa, Monique Lhuillier, Johanna Johnson they are all here.

The designer vintage obsession for Fall 2014?  Well next year it’s the 1930’s – think slinky silks, bias cut shapes and a heavy dose of glitz and glamour.

The micro trend of Spring 2014 is going big for Fall, Spanish flavour wedding dresses using bold floral motifs in lace and embroidery.  This was Naeem Khan’s first bridal collection and he completely ruled this look.

Reminiscent of that iconic Marilyn Monroe ‘Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend’ dress or (for the younger audience Madonna in the ‘Material Girl’ video) this is my favourite of the New York Bridal Week trends.  As far as I’m concerned these wedding dresses are ticking all the right boxes, if only they were in pink!

And finally for something different, something that won’t become a mass bridal market trend.
First up Claire Pettibone’s floral prints over glitter lace, just fabulous.

Then there’s this Temperley kaftan like wedding dress, perfect for destination weddings.

And finally in what’s becoming a signature designer move and the most anticipated element of New York Bridal Week – what colour will Vera Wang present to us this year?  Well for Fall 2014 the colour code is pink, in fact all shades of pink from pastel to flamingo.  Speaking after the show Vera Wang said “Look how flattering it is on all skin types.”  I’ll leave you to be the judge of that.
