THURSDAY THREADS – NEW YORK BRIDAL FASHION WEEK

Thursday October 27 2011.

After all the runway Designer fashion week reports it’s time to focus solely on Bridal fashion and the Fall 2012 trends showcased on the catwalks of New York Bridal Fashion Week.  My predictions were bang on the money as wedding gowns featuring dipped hems, mermaid shapes and translucent fabrics sashayed down the runways.  So what else did New York Bridal Fashion Week have to offer my Bijou brides…

THIGH HIGH

It appeared the Bridal designers were daring brides to bare their flesh with thigh high slits to wedding dress skirts.  Reem Acra sprinkled stardust on her gowns and brides note the awesome crown headbands.

V FOR VICTORY

If your legs aren’t your best feature the designer’s also offered plunging necklines – a trend Jennifer Aniston adopted early at last week’s Elle Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute.

THE PIPPA EFFECT

There is no denying the impact of the Royal wedding on Bridal fashion and of course there were lots of nods to Princess Kate’s Alexander McQueen gown at New York Bridal Fashion Week but it was the Pippa silhouette that proved most popular.  Badgley Mischka gave the look a glamover with embellished neckline and cap sleeves  whilst Marchesa focused on the back and Caroline Herrara chose the waist.

PRINT ME PRETTY

I love a good print and it was wonderful to see Bridal fashion designers embracing them in their collections.  Claire Pettibone wins the best print prize for this gorgeous Victoriana inspired gown.

BLACK

I cannot finish this report without a mention of the Vera Wang collection of black wedding gowns which seem to have dominated the headlines.  Do I think black will defeat white as the wedding dress colour of choice… No.  Do I think it’s refreshing to open the bridal designer’s eyes to providing more options for contemporary brides… Yes.
