Our much-loved Joanne of Joanne Truby Floral Design is back sharing her floristry knowledge and expertise this week on hanging wedding flowers. Having created a number of hanging installations for stylish couples, Joanne is sharing some of these design concepts below to sew the seeds of inspiration for your big day.

Hanging wedding flowers can add a real wow factor to your wedding day décor. There’s so many ways in which you could incorporate them into your big day…

Floral curtains are great for creating a focal back drop and you can tailor them to suit your wedding style. This floral curtain pictured below was suspended from a branch of twisted willow to mark the entrance to wedding breakfast room to tie in with the couples Autumn meets Winter theme we also included pine cones interspersed with the flowers.

How about creating a curtain as a backdrop to your top table? We hung rose heads from the grand fireplace situated behind the top table interspersed with crystal droplets that complimented the crystal candelabra’s which were used as the table centrepieces, the two complimented each other perfectly.

Hanging flowers also look amazing inside a marquee or tipi reception, if you’re after a more botanical style then why not have hanging designs that incorporate foliage & succulents? In the design we created below we mixed a variety of foliage’s (ruskus, asparagus & sharon fern) interspersed with succulents placed in glass globes & with a few scattered garden roses and other flowers.

Hanging flowers don’t necessarily have to consist of curtain style arrangements, another popular trend emerging within hanging flowers are floral chandeliers. Floral chandeliers are sure to create a big statement with your wedding day decor & work particularly well if you have a more rustic style venue or theme. Depending on the size you could opt to have one large one hung in the middle of the room or above your dance floor or you could have two or three smaller chandeliers positioned at the main focal points in the room.

My advice if you are thinking of incorporating hanging wedding flowers into your big day design is firstly decide where you think the perfect place would be for a hanging installation? Then it’s important to ensure your florist has all the measurements needed in order to work out the mechanics and logistics.
