A couple of week’s ago I had the pleasure of meeting master shoe designer Freya Rose at her studio in North London. Freya was kind enough to share the details her bridal collection and bespoke service with me as I stood and marvelled at the luxurious designs, master beading and exquisite craftmanship.
Having graduated from the London College of Fashion with a First in Footwear and worked for the likes of Gina and a host of High Street stores, Freya decided in 2007 that it was time to start her own couture shoe business. I believe it is Freya’s experience in the luxury shoe market combined with an understanding of precious stones and metals that makes her bridal shoe label so unique.
The Aide wedding shoe design below featuring mother of pearl heels (I know WOW!) are individually carved and fitted by hand in Indonesia. In fact nothing in her collection of shoes or modest range of matching accessories is factory made, a decision Freya consciously made to ensure the quality of fit and design. It also explains why Freya spends a lot of her time travelling the globe to source exclusive raw materials such as Parisian lace and fresh water pearls. This is a company dedicated to high caliber couture
BESPOKE BRIDAL SERVICE
I always find it strange that bride’s spend a lot of time in search of the perfect dress, hair accessories and lingerie but all too often their wedding shoes are an after thought. Wedding days are long (rightly so) and nothing is worse than seeing a bride in uncomfortable shoes, no one wants to be wincing blister bride!
Freya Rose’s bespoke bridal service is similar to a wedding dress fitting, you have a private appointment at the showroom where you can try on different shoes with your dress plus there are veils and other accessories on hand. Once you have selected a basic shoe shape and heel size you will be expertly fitted and can start on the fun part, the customisation. It is this that will make your bridal shoes truly unique – dye the shoes to match your wedding dress/ theme, make the heels a focal point with vintage style corsages or incorporate cut off lace from your wedding dress. What makes this service even more special is that customisations can be fitted or detachable, which gives you the option to dye the shoes after the big day.

I think these are such an ingenious idea and perfect for stylish Bijou brides. We all know to expect the post wedding lull but there are ways to combat that and bring a touch of bridal magic back into normal life. One example is the shoe clip which you could (post-wedding) wear on other shoes, clip into your hair or wear as a brooch! Below are just a couple of examples of the Freya Rose shoe clips available but I also spied bows, feathers and lace corsages in the studio.
And with that I was thrust back into normality and my high street brogues.
