This week’s colour code actually inspired my stand design for A Most Curious Wedding Fair (photos and DIY ideas from that later).  Shopping the spring fashions my eyes have been met with a mass of monochrome and the odd pop of colour and so this black white and colourful wedding theme was born.

The first piece to buy for this black, white and colourful wedding look is a monochrome stripe fabric.  I chose a thick cotton that wouldn’t crease too easily (saves on the ironing!) and a stripe roughly 1cm thick to be laid across each guest setting rather than as a traditional table runner.  I took spare pieces of the fabric to make the napkins which I think really pulls the look together.  You like?

The wonderful Elle Is For Love (check her work here:  provided the stationery set – You Are My Sunshine and doesn’t yellow makes a great accent colour teamed with the black and white?  The colourful element demanded lots of brightly coloured flowers and the only choice for me was ranunculus, I love their round shape and abundance of petals.  A DIY tip for you – collected unusual glass food and drink jars and paint them white to hold your colourful flowers.   I used a good three coats of white paint to ensure the colour was solid.

And some more flower details…. To off set the black chair I tied a small bud vase to it with colourful ribbon, this little beauty is available to buy from Dot Com Gift Shop (shop here:  Add a tag and these would be a quirky way to denote guest place settings.

Elsewhere I used colourful glasses, paper straws, candles and a big letter ‘A’ table name to add further pops of colour.

A final touch to the black white and colourful wedding theme and my current obsession, bubble balloons in black, white and a yellow to match the stationery set, tied with various colour ribbons and white tulle.

This was a wedding guest table with a split personality… next week I’ll show you the inspiration behind the other half.
