I’ve got post holiday blues which means that fresh from the airport I’m already researching my next trip!  When it comes to picking the all-important destination well it needs to satisfy your getaway needs and appeal to your holiday personality.  (Mine’s total beach bum by the way.)  None more so than your honeymoon.  Sure the Caribbean is a luxurious paradise, but what if you’re not that bothered about sand beneath your feet?  Sounds like a city break would be a better option.  I caught up with Travelbag’s resident long-haul holiday expert Paul Hopkinson for his 2017 honeymoon ideas and tips for finding the perfect location match.

There’s a reason why most people think of Barbados when booking their dream honeymoon – palm trees, sunshine, white sands and clear turquoise waters could have something to do with it!  The Caribbean island is one of the World’s most luxurious holiday destinations, and while a holiday here may be a little bit pricier than a weekend in Devon, it’s certainly worth it.

candle-lit dinner on the beach, anyone? How about a cocktail with your pampering session?
Paradise awaits you on this world-famous island, where the sun shines daily and the locals are extra friendly. Island life is chilled out, which is exactly what you need after planning the wedding of the year.  The key with Barbados is to make plans early to take advantage of advance booking discounts.

New York is, without doubt, the best place on earth for an exciting city break. As a favourite in my 2017 honeymoon ideas and forever more.  Iconic landmarks, romantic restaurants and huge department stores… the city that never sleeps has it all!
NYC is teeming with romantic hotspots to celebrate your nuptials, including the Empire State Building, Central Park and a boat ride around the Statue of Liberty.  For the ultimate date night, take a horse and carriage ride through Central park before taking in a show on Broadway.

If you’re the type of couple that enjoys staying up until the sun comes out, Phuket is the place for you. Full moon parties, go-go bars and discos take centre stage on Thailand’s largest island, with the action mainly taking place around the city of Patong. Yet to experience Thailand’s world-famous nightlife? You’re in for a treat! It’s a hedonistic mix of glow sticks, neon paint and cocktails.  When you’re not dancing the night away, you may want to head to one of the island’s many spectacular beaches, ancient temples or beautiful Buddhist monuments.  Thailand holidays are very popular so the prices are often competitive.

You can’t mention luxury holidays and honeymoon destinations without mentioning Dubai. Over the past couple of decades the city has grown and grown to become the Middle Eastern metropolis you see today – it’s big, it’s bright and it’s buzzy!  If you’re looking for an action-packed honeymoon with an endless list of activities, Dubai could be for you.  Camel rides in the desert, scuba diving excursions, water sports, water parks, theme parks are just some of what you and your beloved can get up to during your honeymoon. On top of this, this luxurious haven boasts some truly fabulous beaches, outstanding resorts and the world’s tallest building in the breathtaking Burj Khalifa.  Plus these luxury holidays to Dubai are fantastic value for money.
